With a recent increase of violent crime in this country, travelers may be apprehensive to explore Honduras. But despite the relative dangers, there is a lot to offer the tramp traveler and at appealing prices here. (Just ignore all the Applebee’s and fast food restaurants in San Pedro Sula, the rest of the country has a lot more to offer.)
And it would be a downright shame to miss out on the the bay islands here — a worthy place to lose yourself for a couple weeks.
ISLANDS // CITIES
Hi there,
I just got back from Honduras with my 11 and 14 year old and it was fabulous! Avoid all the major centres as in most countries, take care with your goods, be respectful and it is great ! The ziplining was amazing ! Just outside of Le Ceiba they have 18 zips, 1 is over 1 km long and then top it all off with a jungle massge, mud bath and hot springs for 45.00 Rafting, diving (but we went to Hog Islands) this is further off the beaten track and you have to be ready for local hut stays if your wanting to stay. In the lake district, everyone stays at the D&D Brewery but we stayed with Roberta at her Hideaway B&B and was it fabulous. This is only for those that want true “away from it all” home stay. Let her know ahead of time if you want more meals as to sit in the garden all day is heaven. From here we spent 3 days visiting the PanAmerican Nutritional Centre – Roberta can tell you the way. We loved being with the kids and my kids so saw a different world…

Happy travels!
