Julia first visited Central America in 2010 while studying with Hocking College in Costa Rica. Here she earned her Permaculture Design Certificate at the Fuente Verde Community and completed the last classes needed for a BS in Communication Studies from Ohio University. Back in the States, Julia has worked at Herbold Organic Farm and Green Edge Organic Gardens, lived/gardened at the MITCH Collective in Martins Ferry, Ohio and organized service-learning trips throughout West Virginia with Wheeling Jesuit University’s Appalachian Institute. She started writing for BorderTramp in 2013, covering Guatemala and Mexico. She has also spent time in Nicaragua, Panama, and El Salvador.
