Sleeping Lago de Yojoa

Sleeping Lago de Yojoa

D & D Brewery

D&D Brewery and Lodge is a little oasis of relaxation, micro-brews, delicious food and captivating jungle flora and fauna — and most all of it should fit your budget.

The beer and food isn’t exactly cheap, but the size of the dishes here makes them worth the price. It would be a shame to miss out on the breakfasts here (fresh blueberry pancakes!). And if you split the meals, they certainly fit budget and appetite needs.

And the staff here is super friendly. We arrived in the early evening at the start of Easter weekend and they were completely full — out of luck, we thought. But without missing a beat they offered us the extra beds in the owners log cabin at the camping rate ($3usd/60 lemps).

The dorms here cost $6usd/120 lemps and a private is $10.50usd/200 lemps for one person or $15usd/300 lemps for 2 people.

D&D has a swimming pool, too — what more can you ask for in a small jungle lodge nestled in the mountains of western Honduras?

It’s a bit off the beaten path, but this place is well worth it. This jungle bungalow is the home of Roberta, a retiree from Palm Springs, CA. From the second you step onto the property it’s obvious what her passions are — tropical plants and eclectic decor.

Roberta has two rooms on offer, one a bit larger and more private than the other and the starting prices are $20 and $25usd respectively, although when renting long term she is certainly open to negotiations.

It’s a bed and breakfast so daily breakfasts with coffee are included, of course! And judging by the delicious banana bread we sampled, you won’t be disappointed. And you also have use of the kitchen for cooking your own meals.

To get to The Hideaway from San Pedro Sula, you can take an El Mochito bus to Peña Blanca. Once in Peña Blanca you can hop in a rapidito toward the archaeological park and have then drop you at the “dos pinos” drive (there are two pine trees at the entrance). Walk up the lane about 50 yards and it is the first gate on the left.

The wi-fi here is hit or miss, as it is in much of the area. But Roberta says she is working on making it more reliable.
