Sleeping : San Cristobal

There are a wide range of places to stay in San Cristobal. All of the following hostals are close to the Cathedral and Central Park. And though it’s the case in most cities, here we were told explicitly that prices vary for low and high seasons. However, when low and high seasons are wasn’t entirely clear. Most often, High Season means Semana Santa (Easter Week), Christmas, and New Years, and often the months of July and August as well. However, sometimes High Season lasts from Christmas until the end of January. Prices below are for low season, except for Le Gite Del Sol, where both are listed. Prices otherwise can go up between 20 and 50 pesos for high season, sometimes more.

Deja Vu

Located just one street up from Real de Guadalupe, Deja Vu is a cozy and comfortable hostel, where dorm beds are some of the cheapest we’ve seen, and better looking than others we’ve seen that cost more. They offer a kitchen, drinking water, movies/projector, and a terrace with a BBQ that guests can use, as well as hammocks for relaxing. And on the roof is a small lookout area for catching some sun or taking in views of the city.

Hostal Tata Inti

Located just off of Real de Guadalupe, Tata Inti is a great find for who want to relax, and are looking for easy access to all that downtown San Cristobal has to offer. Rooms here are basic, but the prices are great. There’s a comfortable common area with WIFI, and a large kitchen that is open 24 hours. Upstairs is a cozy and secluded rooftop terrace as well. While some hotels can feel a little too formal, we like Tata Inti because it was laid back and easy going.

Also, bicycle tours are available through Tata Inti, and you can rent the bikes as well.

Posada Ganesha

Though a budget buster for some, Posada Ganesha could be exactly what you are looking for in busy, bustling San Christobal. A smaller Posada, with Hindu-inspired art and décor, Ganesha has cozy, clean rooms with comfortable beds (ample blankets included.) There are seven private rooms, and a dorm, with three bathrooms shared by all. Ganesha also offers a well-equipped kitchen, two patios, and a dining area for guests to enjoy. Breakfast, a simple spread of fruit, coffee, and bread with jam and butter, is offered between 8am-10am. Drinking water is on hand in the kitchen, and WIFI is available in the front patio and seating area.

Also, there is a yoga and meditation room at Ganesha, Monday through Friday, classes are offered at 9am and at 7pm.

You can also purchase tickets at Ganesha for tours offered to El Canyon Del Sumidero, local indigenous villages, Montebello/Chiflon, or horseback riding tours. Shuttle tickets are available as well.

Le Gite Del Sol

Located two blocks off of Real del Guadalupe, Le Gite del Sol offers large private rooms for rent, where clean sheets and towels are offered daily, and breakfast is included in your stay. Options include eggs/beans/toast, fruit/granola/yogurt, or toast with jam, all with a choice of coffee, tea, or hot chocolate. Refills are included on the coffee, which always wins us over. Le Gite Del Sol occupies two buildings. In the first, where breakfast is served, there are rooms with private baths, which are more expensive than in the nearby Annex. The annex has rooms with shared bathrooms, but also offers a kitchen and dining room for guest use, and use of the computer (kitchen/computer available between 8am and 9pm.) There is also a comfortable rooftop terrace, and WIFI is available. Prices below are for rooms in the Annex, with shared bath.
