Mary is a newer member of the Border Tramp team, having met Xavi in the hills of southeastern Ohio where she studied Latin American history, language, and culture at Ohio University. Though new to Central America, she’s no stranger to traveling. A number of family motorcycle trips sparked her interest and she moved to Barcelona during a “gap year” after high school. In Barcelona she polished her Spanish, learned some Catalan, and worked as a nanny for a Catalan family.
Upon return, Mary enrolled in Ohio University and was granted a scholarship to learn Portuguese in Brazil. She spent a year in Sao Paulo where she attended classes at the University of Sao Paulo and volunteered at the incredible Casa do Zezinho (website in Portuguese). Her work with Border Tramp has given her the opportunity to work on her photography and culinary skills, as well as try her hand at basic web design. (So if something on the site doesn’t work, let her know at mary@bordertramp.com) She looks forward to continued adventures with the Border Tramp team, and can’t wait to head back south!
