Street Meat
There is certainly no shortage of restaurants in Flores, however when it comes to budget, the options are slim. You’ll be hard pressed finding a meal under $5usd (40 quetzales) anywhere — except for the central square that is!
Up on the top of the island is the central square, with a church, small park and some courts for basketball and football practice. There are a few food stalls surrounding the northwest corner and here you can feast for about $2.50usd (20 quetzales) — including a beer! Definitely a trampers must in Flores.
La Playita
It only opened in February of 2012, but this modest little kitchen located opposite the bridge serves up delicious local antojitos at a great price — a welcome find in the sea of relatively expensive restaurants here. For just over $1usd (10 quetzales) you can get 4 tacos or 3 pupusas or burritos or tostadas or a variety of other options. They are cooked up to order by the women inside. To drink you can get bottles of Gallo for 10 quetzales or licuados (fruit smoothies, mas o menos) at the same price.
La Playita is definitely a goldmine for trampers on a budget — it opens in the evenings each day of the week.
La Canoa
La Canoa is a great find for breakfast. For just over $2.50usd (20 quetzales) you can get a traditional breakfast of two eggs, beans, cheese, tortillas and coffee all included — the best price we found. And the patio is a nice place to look out on the lake.
Restaurante Tipico Imperio
his place looks like the plates would run way over the tramper’s budget, and sure plenty of them do. But you can get a hearty breakfast of eggs, beans, fruit, cheese and bread with coffee included for $3.20usd (25 quetzales) — coffee included! Best breakfast deal we found. Dinners are a bit of a stretch, but happy hour is a pleasure here. Two for one deals on cuba libres, mojitos, caipirinhas for under $2usd (15 quetzales). Sure you’ll find this deal all over the island, but the view of the lake here is incredible and so is the breeze coming off of it.
