Hostal Hermano Pedro
This hostel/hotel is centrally located, just a block off the main road and is a great option if you’re just in town a couple of days. You can be up early to catch the colectivo to Tikal and only have to walk a block to get to the main road. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the wifi signal is excellent once you get the right password. There are two computers for general use, but there is an hourly charge. There is a kitchen with plenty of cooking supplies available for a $15GTQ fee. Once again, the price of propane makes hotel owners hesitant to open up their kitchens.
RATES
4-bed dorm with private bath — $50GTQ ($7USD)

Campamento Casa Roja
Casa Roja, in the words of the owner (and the name), is more geared towards camping than dorms. The place doubles as an art studio, and they offer classes in drawing and painting. The vibe is laidback and the place is covered in plant life. Once again, kitchen use is controlled–it does not generally come with the price of your stay. It is not, however, tightly controlled and owner Gonzalo is more than willing to work out a price.
There are lockers in the dorms and the private rooms, but there are no computers and no wifi. All of the rooms have shared bathrooms.

Hotel Mon Ami
Hotel Mon Ami is farther down the secondary road along the lake than any of the other places and so is much quieter and a bit more of a walk. There is a restaurant on-site, so kitchen use is not included. Since nightlife is pretty much absent from El Remate, Mon Ami is a great option if you’re trying to chill out for a couple days. The big, airy dorm room is equipped with both single and double beds, which is nice for couples who don’t want to shell out the cash for a private double but would like to stay in the same bed. I’m not sure how the system works if a lone tramper shows up and all the singles are taken…
At Mon Ami the real value is in the private rooms, especially if you’re in a larger group. The private rooms all have private baths, and you’ve got the security of being able to lock up your belongings. The dorms are not equipped with lockers, though the hotel provides a lockbox in reception. There is wifi, but no computers available.
