Eating: Cancun

Parque Las Palapas

If you’re staying in old Cancun, you don’t have to walk far to find empanadas, marquesitas, quesadillas or whatever other Mexican fair your growling stomach desires for right around $2.40usd. But the easiest place to find it all is right in Parque Las Palapas – and especially on the weekends.

Food carts line the perimeter and there are at least 5 or 6 food stalls to choose from along the right side of the square (if you are facing the stage). All delicious, all affordable. But while the food carts are not lacking in marquesitas, it is difficult to find a street dog there. For Xavi’s favorite street meat – the hoat doag – you’ll have to head to the bus station a few blocks up.

Chedraui Supermarket

CentralAmerica_Mexico_Cancun_Chedraui_cheap_food_budget_travel_5About a five minute walk from parque Las Palapas is the Chedraui supermarket and shopping here will certainly keep you on budget.

With breakfast being provided by nearly all the hostels, you only need a couple dollars and kitchen facilities to keep your stomach satisfied for the day.

You can get poultry, beef, or seafood and your fruits and veggies in for right around $2usd.
