Hostel Moloch
Hostel Moloch is superbly located, just around the corner from the bus station and a couple blocks up from parque Las Palapas. It is meticulously cleaned each day and has almost everything we needed in a hostel (wifi, free computer use, kitchen, lockers, etc). The one thing lacking was that guests are not permitted to bring in alcohol. But this is a minor inconvenience for what is really a fabulous place to stay the night.
It is at the higher end of what we are willing to pay for a bed, but with a swimming pool and air conditioning included, a few sacrifices might make this place worth the stay.

(There is also a continental breakfast included of juice, toast and coffee)

Haina Hostel
Another immaculately clean hostel found in old Cancun.
The quaint and charming Haina Hostel (click here to visit their website) is set just a few blocks from parque Las Palapas and has very likeable qualities throughout. The first being its owner Malena who was proud to show us around the business. There is a full kitchen, an area to do your laundry and free wi-fi. To use the computer it cost about fifty cents (usd). Be warned that there is only one bathroom for all of the dorm guests to share.

Quetzal Hostel
Lazing about on a hot and steamy Saturday morning in Cancun is easy when you’re in an air-conditioned dorm full of like-minded trampers. For the price, this hostel is hard to beat. And if you’re a lone tramper it’s probably your best option in Cancun.
There is a sun-deck on the roof if you need to boost the vitamin D in your system. Quetzal Hostel also provides free wi-fi.
For just under $15usd you get a bed and a small locker as well as full breakfast and dinner included – and the food is nothing to balk at either (eggs and breakfast meat in the morning, chicken mole and the like in the evening). And if you want a beer with your dinner, you can purchase one for $1.10usd at the hostel or go out, find your own, and bring it back. Staying here leaves you with $5usd for the remainder of the day. Pretty easy to get our 3-beer-minimum in under budget staying here.

Mayan Hostel
Mayan Hostel is located just blocks away from the bus station and the very lively parque Las Palapas. Owned by a former New Yorker the place has a very cozy, tropical feel and a great rooftop patio for relaxing — or sleeping if you bunk in the palapa dorm.
Included with the rates is a full breakfast, a nice feature and change of pace from the more common continental breakfast of toast and coffee.
There is a kitchen open to the guests, including a grill on the roof. Mayan Hostel also lets their guest bring their own alcoholic beverages to enjoy. There is free wi-fi and free computer use as well.
We were told it has been through multiple owners in recent years. Xavi stayed there in the spring of 2010 under different ownership and he attests that it seems as though Mayan Hostel is finding its footing with the new management.
