Just down the street from El Retiro Lodge, Restaurant Champey offers modest-yet-tastey meals and sandwiches at decent prices — $2 – $4.50usd (15 – 40 quetzales). They also offer tours to Semuc Champey at rates that are lower than the competition at $18usd (140 quetzales) compared to $21usd (165 quetzales) through El Retiro.

El Retiro Lodge

The restaurant at El Retiro offers an open, outdoor setting with a roof, perfect for not just eating but using the free wifi, playing cards, or playing a game of jenga gigante.  The restaurant offers exceptional meals at moderate prices — breakfast 20-30Q, lunch 25-40Q, and a buffet style dinner from 50-55Q.  Although these prices tended to be over our limit, the food really was outstanding and you are never left unsatisfied. And aside from the buffet dinner, all of the offerings for breakfast or lunch can easily be shared.  The buffet is good to try once, but there are cheaper options in town.  Breakfast is definitely a great deal if you’re travelling with a buddy because you can easily share one for 25Q.  The pancake with fruit is our pick — a huge, fluffy crepe stuffed chock full with papaya, mango, cantaloupe, watermelon, pineapple, yogurt, and granola!  Nearly impossible to eat by yourself, but perfect for splitting!
