Bocas del Toro, an archipelago of 7 main islands and a number of smaller islets off the northeastern shore, is one of the prime tourist destinations in Panama. Beaches are plentiful—a different destination for each day of the week—and most popular islands, Colon, Bastimentos and Carenero are a short boat trip from one another and you can easily spend a couple nights on each depending on what you’re looking for. If you’re after a party-til-dawn atmosphere, staying on Isla Colon is you’re best bet. If you’d like to party all night and sleep it off in peace, check out Isla Carenero. And if you’re looking to escape from all that reggaeton and get a taste of true Caribbean relaxation then head over to Isla Bastimentos. Bocas del Toro is definitely one of those places where well-intentioned trampers, planning on spending a couple days, realize (after a week) that they should have planned for longer.
