Pupusas. Maybe you’re like me and at first taste they don’t exactly excite you? D’uh, how exciting can beans and cornmeal really be? Well trust me, if you spend enough time in Guatemala and El Salvador, you will develop a taste for them — or at least you better, because the other option is starving.
The fastest and cheapest food option in El Zonte is here, at Pupuseria Alice y Johana. You can get a variety of pupusas here and 2 or 3 of the stuffed tortillas will fill you (if you’re a person of normal appetite). At fifty cents a pop, its worth the wait.
